-My IQ is 120. My GCSEs. D in Maths and Science. E in English, I passed level 2 functional skills for Maths and English. I'd like to re-take my GCSEs (Maths, English, Science and maybe something else) but I'm not sure what I'll need after that. I've tried looking and found basic requirements but I want to be a full-time middle school English teacher by the age of 30.
I'm 18 years old, so I'll finish GCSEs when I'm 19. Will I need to do A-Levels after that? Then University, or can I go straight to University and do my A-Levels there while also training to become a teacher?
I appreciate all answers regarding the subject, thank you.I think you'll have to do A-levels and get passes to enable you to gain entry to University. Check with your local college about studying for those, get them first and see if you can then get into University. You can also study at home through the Open University too remember. Best of luck.
Education classes for middle school will concentrate on elementary education classes. They are horrible. You spend hours and hours making little folders, notebooks, and no one tells you about the disfuctional middle schoolers, who are raging with hormones that are out of control.
Do yourself a favor, major in Education, K-12. It's harder work, but you will be free to teach any subject at any grade level whenever you want. I did that, and majored in biology, minored in organic chemistry and music. While i taught middle school i picked up a degree in abnormal psychology; focusing on the adolescent. After 15 years of teaching the 'range of the strange' I moved to a mountain town in Colorado. I wound up running an off campus campus, teaching individual seniors whatever class they needed to graduate. One semester I was teaching Physics, algebra, biology and senior lit one on one, and then running over to the school campus and teaching beginning band to 6th graders. If it weren't for the education K-12 degree, I wouldn't' have had the opportunity to do that. It was fun. And I made good money in a town where unemployment was over 30%. Leave your options open. As you teach, you will find a niche in which you excell, It may not be middle school English. Pardon my grammar and punctuation. I'm in a big hurry and didn't plan on answering any questions today; just asking one.
To answer your question: graduate high school and go straight to college.
You could retake your English, Maths and Science GCSEs.
After GCSEs, you have a couple of options. You could do A levels which would be time-consuming and potentially expensive. You could also look for a Higher Education Access course which would get you into university. It will prepare you for Higher Education and they're becoming quite respected by universities. Some local colleges will deliver them and I believe they're more flexible than A levels and there may be funding.
Once you've got your Access Course or A levels, you can apply to go onto university. Your degree needs to be at least 50% English in order for you to go onto teacher training.
