Are there any laws that would stop me from teaching guitar to young children?

-I'm 14 years old and I've been playing guitar for nearly six years, I have good knowledge on music theory and I'll be sitting grade 5 early next year.

I've always been good with young children and I'm getting to the age where I need some money so would there be any laws stopping me from teaching guitar to young children/beginners/not very experienced.

I know I can't just start and I'll have to work out prices and how and where I'll teach them but I have taught children before and I loved it. What do you think would be a good price (half hour lessons?) and how would I be safe going to strangers houses?

Thank you! Most states its the law that you must be 15 or 16 to work so you wouldn't be able to work at a shop or open a bussiness. But you would be able to teach private lessons, paid in cash, it is similar to babysitting.
You are young, and very wise to think about the things involved in attempting to teach other young people in your craft. When I was 12, I began teaching piano lessons to younger students however, myown piano teacher had 'rooms' in her home where the older kids would work with the younger kids on their practice, learning notes, etc. She paid me. Since you are doing this on your own, you need to make sure that all adults (parents, grands, guardians, etc) are involved and KNOW you.. Print flyers with your name address, price, etc for lessons. Make sure that if you have to go to someone's home, your parents are involved and introduced! If you want to do this at YOUR home, make sure an adult is present. For half hour lessons - these days - $30-50 is not uncommon.

Keep in mind that because of the network available - websites - youtube - many people are finding it just as easy to learn online.

Personally, I would never teach piano lessons again. The disavantages outweigh the advantages. People are too quick to accuse 'teachers' of wrongdoing - and I would just rather stay away from any hint of inappropriaty. Because you are young - you really need to be careful.

Best of luck.
As long as you are engaged in tutoring on an individual level the only laws that might affect you will be those of income tax. That said, if you bring students into your house make sure you have insurance to cover them while they are there. A quick review of your family policy should answer that question. If the answer is no, you should add it. The cost will be minimal. To determine cost of lessons I would make a call or two to people/organizations in your general area whom you are familiar with that are involved with music instruction, someone you feel might be able to answer that question. Just pretend you are looking for lessons and ask for their costs. For help in determining your required level of safety in other peoples houses you should depend on the wisdom of your parents.
