-I've always wondered why schools teach the theory of evolution as fact, and disregard the bible. No real biased opinion, just curious.Because evolution is taught as science, based on information and ideas that have yet to be discredited in the same field. The moment you bring in beliefs and ideas that have no way of being scientifically tested, you aren't studying science any more. It isn't an attempt to deny or discredit religion, it is just an exploration into a different realm of information and understanding.micro-evolution can be taught as a fact because it has been proven. As for macro-evolution, no we don't have real-time evidence for it (i.e. nobody could actually see a speciation in process), but we have tons of evidence from fossils, genomic comparison, and extrapolation from microevolution to suggest it is true. And for the record, evolution isn't being taught as a fact. it is being taught as a theory that is widely accepted to be true until contradictory evidence comes along. It's the same with molecular bonds. In school, it is taught as a fact that there are molecular bonds that hold chemicals together. But can we actually see the bonds in action? No. Can we actually see protons and electrons? No. All we have are indirect evidence to suggest they exist, but nevertheless, theory of molecular bonds is being taught as a fact at school anyway.
And public education disregards the Bible because the public wants Bible to be separated from public education. You may not like it, but the majority of population in this country prefers it that way. You can either go to a different country, or just go along with the crowd. It's democracy, majority wins. Sorry.
I also want to point out that in a court of law, it is often not necessary to have direct evidence in order to make a decision. For example, to convict a person of murder, you do not need to have eye-witness actually seeing the murder in progress. We use indirect evidence such as hair at crime scene, fingerprints...etc to draw conclusions. It's the same with science. We do not need direct evidence of speciation to conclude macroevolution is true. The amount of indirect evidence as I mention above is already overwhelming. Besides, the only contradictory evidence against evolution is the Bible, which in the end, is not same as science. Scientific theory can only be contradicted by another scientific theory. You cannot use religion to disprove science. The only way to disprove evolution is with another scientific theory that has better evidence to support it.
Other than the bible itself, there is no evidence that the biblical account of creation is factual. There have been philosophical constructs created to explain how the biblical account HAS to be factual, such as the watchmaker concept, but these are experiments in philosophy, not science.
Evolution is based on provable (and disprovable) hypotheses about genetic mutation and natural selection, and backed up by research and experimentation.
Because the Bible is a book of mythology not science. And the theory of evolution is so well supported by facts it pretty well is one.
because evolution is science & science is a subject taught in school.
Because we can actually demonstrate evolution. It is a fact.
