-My teacher wrote this on my report card but i got a 52, that makes no sense. wdfI agree that the statement made is confusing, but you have to see it from a teacher's point of view, AND you have to know that there may have been some limitations to what he/she could have stated. In our school system - the 'remarks' for the report cards are limited to certain statements already in place. Oftentimes, the statements do not necessarily 'say' what teachers want, or need to indicate about the student - but that's all they have.
As a student - you can make a '52', which in my district would be FAILING, but you can still be a nice person, having never given your teacher any trouble and the teacher enjoyed having you in class. That has nothing to do with your grades, per se. However, there should have been other statements the teacher would have been able to use to alert your parents that you are not holding up your end of the bargain.
For example - I have had great students in terms of class helpers, not talking, not causing disturbances, and I loved having them in the class, but on the otherhand, I had to select the sentence that stated: student does not turn in work on time, or student does not turn in assignments, student does not work well in groups, student does not.....you get my drift?
I try to inform my students of 'what statements" I will be making on their report cards. For my homeroom students, I always attach my own PERSONAL letter to parents about the progress of their child, and how they respond in class. Parents are invited to come and spend time in the class so they can 'see' how their own children 'act'. We have chairs in each classroom for parents who visit. Most of the time, students don't know they are coming and parents are often surprised at their own children's actions in a classroom. Kids go home and often lie to their parents, or tell their side of the story. When the parent comes to the class - they can see for themselves, and also have the opportunity to see their children's folders and grades.
Your teacher probably likes you - but if you want the truth - you are NOT performing academically the way you should - and that's where you need help. '52' is failing. '65 is failing - so that means you are falling below the line of expectation.
My advice - get it together. If you need help - ask for it. Your school is obligated to provide tutoring, and whatever else is necessary to ensure that you are getting the opportunity you need to be successful.
I encourage you - do your best.
